Choose one job for the Reel
Decide whether the Reel should demonstrate use, clarify a feature, compare variants, answer an objection, or announce availability. One short video rarely does all five well.
Write the opening frame and final action before choosing transitions. This keeps motion in service of the product rather than using animation to hide a thin idea.
Avoid promising performance that the source material cannot prove. Text overlays should explain visible evidence, not manufacture it.
Working checklist
- Select one viewer question
- Write a one-line hook
- Choose one proof sequence
- Define the final action
Build an asset sequence
Arrange wide, medium, and detail crops so the viewer learns something on every beat. Add a lifestyle image or packaging detail only when it advances the story.
Use short captions that remain readable without sound. Create alt text and a descriptive caption for accessibility and for viewers who need more context.
Do not stretch low-resolution photos or crop away the product's distinguishing feature merely to fill a vertical frame.
Working checklist
- Check 9:16 safe areas
- Keep text away from interface overlays
- Verify product color
- Preview without sound
Use motion with restraint
Apply movement to direct attention: a slow crop toward a feature, a cut timed to a comparison, or a hold long enough to read a specification.
Keep transitions consistent inside one video and vary them between campaigns. The product should remain the most visually stable element.
Fast motion, flashing text, and constant zooming can reduce comprehension and create accessibility problems. Respect reduced-motion needs in embedded web previews.
Working checklist
- Limit transition vocabulary
- Hold key proof frames
- Check readability at phone size
- Export a clean cover frame
Publish, annotate, and learn
Use a caption that adds information the video cannot carry, including relevant variant, price context, or care instructions. Link to the exact product or collection promised.
Tag the creative recipe and product category in the reporting sheet. After several posts, compare retention, saves, qualified sessions, and production time by recipe.
Do not declare a format successful from one viral outlier. Look for a repeatable improvement across several comparable products.
Working checklist
- Verify caption claims
- Tag the product
- Record the creative recipe
- Review retention after seven days
